About FDVA
Watching over and advocating for Florida’s
more than 1.5 million veterans are the men and
women of the Florida Department of Veterans’
Aairs. The cabinet agency is responsible for
assisting, without charge, Florida’s veterans,
their families and survivors in improving their
health and economic well-being through quality
benefit information, advocacy and education.
FDVA’s two primary program areas include
Benefits and Assistance with sta conducting
outreach throughout the state to help veterans
connect with their earned benefits and services.
Its second primary program is operating the
Homes Program running six skilled nursing
facilities and one assisted living facility.

Who We Are
The Baldomero Lopez State Veterans’ Nursing
Home in beautiful Land O’ Lakes is a well-
equipped, modern facility with skilled nurses
dedicated to taking care of veteran residents.
The facility’s uplifting environment and
beautiful location make it a perfect home
for elderly veterans in need of assisted living
resources. From pain management to social
and recreational activities, this nursing home
is specially designed to take care of all its
residents’ needs. The sta is specially trained
to assist those with Alzheimers disease and
other dementia.
With basic services taken care of, the
residential facility oers a variety of
interesting amenities to enhance the
experience of each resident. These services
include daily recreational activities such as
scheduled excursions, playful competitions
and other games and entertainment.
Korean War Medal of Honor Recipient
Baldomero Lopez
The Baldomero Lopez State Veterans’
Nursing Home is named after First Lieutenant
Baldomero Lopez of the U.S. Marine Corps.
First Lieutenant Lopez was posthumously
awarded the Medal of Honor in recognition
of his sacrifice when, wounded by enemy fire,
he heroically pulled a live grenade under his
body to shield his comrades from the blast.
Admission
Basic admission requirements include an
honorable discharge from the Armed Forces,
Florida residency at the time of application
and a medical review and certification of
need of skilled nursing care as determined

Your purchase of the Florida Salutes Veterans
or one of the approved Army, Navy, Air Force
or Coast Guard license plates helps people
who need it most, when they need it most.
The $15 surcharge is placed into a trust fund
for the operation and maintenance of State
Veterans’ Homes in Florida. A portion of the
Marine Corps and Support Our Troops license
plates also support the State Veterans’
Homes program.
